Happy 25th Anniversary to the Graminia Swing'n Band Society. This parent volunteer organization was officially registered as a non-profit organization in 1995. As the fundraising body that supports the Graminia Junior High band program we have worked hard to support music education for all.
Band students are required to wear all black for all formal band performances. There are numerous ways to pull this off from a black shirt and pants or swapping the pants for a skirt. Some individuals may opt for a simple black dress. Remember the socks too! Please speak with the band director directly if you have any questions or concerns.
Yes! There is grade 6 band practice tomorrow and Ms Schulz will have them out in plenty of time to go trick-or-treating.
The first meeting of the GSBS was October 1st where the new Executive was voted in. The band director was also present and presented two proposals for potential trips for the band students in the new year. Stayed tuned to find out more as the plans get flushed out. We bid a fond farewell to outgoing President Miles Safranovich. Miles and his wife Lea were both huge supporters of music at Graminia spending countless hours organizing fundraisers, coordinating volunteers, working casinos and so much more. They will both be missed.
Band is off to a great start! We have two programs running this year:
The band director for both bands is Ms Emily Schultz [email protected] The executive will meet next month to fill positions and continue planning for the new season. Grade sixes are off to the Jump Start program at MacEwan University October 3rd. We request your patience as we update the website for the 2019-2020 school year. On that note one of the Executive positions that needs to be filled is that of Communications Director. Why just browse this site when you could be the one creating it! Those interested can use the Contact Form to get more details. Join the Executive! For 25 years, the GSBS has been critical in bringing the opportunity of music to many children at Graminia.
As our children grow and pass through their years in the band program at Graminia, preparing to move on to new adventures at different schools, the parents that volunteer for the Graminia Swing'n Band Society move on as well. For the Graminia Band program to be successful, the GSBS needs to be successful in recruiting new members. The commitment is moderate, less than coaching or assisting on a sports team. It involves attending 4 - 5, 2 hour meetings per year primarily focused on planning the annual Taste and Sound event and the semi-annual casino, our two main fundraising events. Many of the current GSBS team have been on the board for several years now and will be vacating their positions as their kids move on. I have been with GSBS for 5 years now. Lea and I will be involved for a couple of more years as long as our youngest son stays in band. The time has gone by quickly, but the friendships I have made and the experiences we have helped provide for all our children will last forever. On behalf of the GSBS team, I ask that you all carefully consider offering up some of your time to the GSBS executive. If you have any questions about participating on the GSBS please feel free to send me an email at [email protected]. Miles Safranovich President, Graminia Swing'n Band Society Hello!Music is an important part of our childrens education and development. The program at Graminia is evolving to include more choices and options. Please join us in welcoming Emily Schultz and Stephanie Smith, new teachers who count music among their specialties.
